A Bharatiya student who was reported missing in the United States was tragically found dead on Tuesday on the premises of Purdue University in Indiana State, sending shockwaves throughout the Bharatiya community. Neel Acharya’s death was confirmed by the college authorities, a day after his parent, Goury Acharya, took to social media requesting information about his whereabouts. His death comes days after the brutal murder of another Bharatiya student, Vivek Saini, who was hammered to death by a homeless person in Georgia.
The death of Acharya, a computer science and data science student at Purdue University, was confirmed by the university on its website, however, they did not divulge the cause of his death. Purdue University informed that an individual of the same age as Neel Acharya, matching his character description, and carrying his ID was found dead near Maurice J Zucrow Laboratories on the campus. Additionally, Acharya’s last known location, as confirmed by people close to him, was similar to the area where the body was found, the university added.
Before the information regarding Neel Acharya’s death was published, computer science department interim head, Chris Clifton had already shared the information with the students and faculty. Terming Acharya a “driven individual and academically talented,” Clifton conveyed condolences to his friends, family, and all affected.
Meanwhile, the Indian Consulate in Atlanta strongly condemned the death of Vivek Saini, who was brutally murdered in Georgia using a hammer. Taking to the microblogging platform, X, the Atlanta Consulate stated that they are deeply anguished by the terrifying, brutal, and heinous incident that led to Saini’s murder.
Saini was assassinated by a drug addict identified as Julian Faulkner, who hit him around 50 times with a hammer, eventually killing him. Shockingly, Saini had been assisting the murderer by providing him with food, water, and clothes. Though the video of the incident has been going viral, when the incident happened remains unknown.
