In a recent development, the Jangpura Extension Welfare Association (RWA) issued a notice to Suranya Aiyer, daughter of Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, over her social media rant against the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha ceremony in Ayodhya, held on January 22, 2024. The RWA not only sought an apology from Suranya but also called on Mani Shankar Aiyar to condemn his daughter’s actions.
The notice, shared on social media by BJP leader Amit Kharkhari, emphasized the responsibility of the association to maintain cordial relations among all residents of the colony. The RWA highlighted that Suranya’s comments were unbecoming of an educated person and urged her to understand the significance of the Ram Mandir construction, backed by a unanimous Supreme Court verdict.
President Dr. Kapil Kakar, who signed the notice, expressed disappointment over Suranya’s hate speech and her three-day fast in a society where many residents migrated from Pakistan post-partition. The RWA urged Suranya to uphold the norms of a good citizen and refrain from creating hatred and mistrust among people.
The notice suggested that instead of resorting to social media rants, Suranya should have approached the court if she disagreed with the verdict in favor of Hindus and the construction of the Ram Mandir. The RWA emphasized that expressing frustration in a manner that impacts religious sentiments cannot be endorsed.
President Dr. Kakar personally appealed to Mani Shankar Aiyar to condemn his daughter’s rant, stating that it was not in good taste for the colony and society as a whole. Additionally, Suranya was urged to consider moving out of the society if she believed her actions were justified, suggesting a potential shift to a place where such sentiments might be more accepted.
Dr. Kakar confirmed the issuance of the letter by the RWA and mentioned that there has been no response from either Mani Shankar Aiyar or Suranya Aiyer regarding the notice.
In an interview, Dr. Kakar expressed concern over the statements made by Suranya, stating that they have disturbed the peace in the society. While acknowledging her right to express opinions, he emphasized the need for an apology due to the potential disruption of peace and harmony caused by her provocative statements.
Suranya Aiyer had initiated her protest on January 19, expressing her anguish over the atmosphere surrounding the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha. She posted a lengthy rant on Facebook and initiated a fast, which lasted from January 20 to January 23, condemning what she perceived as Hindu chauvinism, malice, and bullying in the context of the Ayodhya event.
