Apple’s latest gadget, the Vision Pro headset, is creating quite a buzz in the tech world. Tech enthusiasts are eager to know just how sturdy this futuristic wearable is, and Sam Kohl from AppleTrack decided to put it to the test. In a typical tech YouTube fashion, he subjected the expensive device to various challenges to see how well it can handle everyday wear and tear.
One of the notable findings is that the Vision Pro’s glass front panel proved surprisingly resilient. Despite intentional bumps against walls, the glass showed only minor scuffs and held up well without shattering. It seems like the front panel can withstand clumsy household knocks without major damage.
However, the same can’t be said for the peripheral speakers. After several collisions with walls, one of the speakers stopped functioning, and their connections to the headband eventually broke. The lightweight magnetic light seals also easily detached during impacts, highlighting some vulnerability in these components.
Despite these challenges, the durability of the front glass is impressive, surviving multiple drops from significant heights. Even with a weight ranging from 600 to 650 grams, it took eight drops from considerable heights to finally splinter the front glass. Surprisingly, the twin internal and external screens continued to function even with part of the cover missing.
While the Vision Pro’s durability is commendable, it’s essential to note that repairing a damaged screen comes with a hefty price tag. Without AppleCare, the cost is $799, and with their protection plan, it’s $299. For more extensive damage, Apple quotes up to a staggering $2,399.
In conclusion, the Vision Pro headset can endure reasonable mishaps, but users should exercise caution to avoid severe damage. The front glass proves to be remarkably robust, but potential repair costs may give users pause before putting their device to extreme tests.
