Bharat marked the death anniversary of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, known as the ‘Nightingale of Bharat’ on Tuesday. The iconic singer was born on September 28, 1929 and began her career at the age of 13.
Mangeshkar sang over 30,000 songs in various languages. Among her popular Hindi songs include Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon, Pyaar Kiya to Darna Kya and Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai, among others. She was honoured with Bharat Ratna (2001), Bharat Vibhushan (1999) and Bharat Ratna (2001), Bharat Vibhushan (1999) and Bharat Bhushan (1969).
Lata Mangeshkar’s career spans over seven decades and made her the voice for many generations of female actors in Bollywood. Her voice was often described as ‘pure’. She held a symbolic significance for actresses in the film industry, especially during the 1960s and 70s when she reached the pinnacle of her career.
On her second death anniversary, a program named ‘Sangeetmay Baithak’ has been organised, where many eminent personalities of the music world will be taking part and pay tribute to Lata Mangeshkar.
