Artisans in Rajasthan are elated and celebrating as their craft has found a place in Abu Dhabi’s first Hindu temple BAPS Mandir, set to be inaugurated on February 14 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The artisans made the idols of Hindu deities such as Lord Ram and Lord Ganesh for over a span of four years.

“I am a third-generation sculptor and we chisel stones to carve designs for a living, ” said Sculptor Ram Kishan Singh who belongs to Makrana.  “I was so excited about the idea of a Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi. What can be a better example to send a message of brotherhood and communal harmony,” he added.  Ram Kishan Singh has worked on 83 pieces for the temple up till now.

The completion of the religious campus  was confirmed by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. They also informed that His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the temple on February 14.

Mahant Swami Maharaj arrived in Abu Dhabi on Monday to preside over the inauguration of UAE’s first Hindu BAPS temple. The construction work of the temple started in 2019 which will be open to the general public on February 18, 2024.

The temple, being built using pink limestone and white marble by the BAPS Swaminarayan on a 27-acre site in Abu Mureikhah, is near Al Rahba off the Dubai-Abu Dhabi Sheikh Zayed Highway. From northern Rajasthan to Abu Dhabi, a number of pink sandstones were transported for the same.
