Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), one of the leading software companies, has issued a final call to its employees who continue to work remotely despite the company’s mandate to return to the office. The deadline for employees to resume office duties has been extended to March, with the warning of severe repercussions for those who fail to comply.
The decision to urge employees back to the office comes after TCS made it compulsory for its workforce to be present in the office five days a week starting in October last year. NG Subramaniam, the COO of TCS, emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong work culture and addressing security concerns as primary reasons for the return to office policy.
Subramaniam highlighted the increasing threat of cyberattacks and the challenges in maintaining stringent security measures while working remotely. He stressed that returning to the office would allow for better control over security risks and facilitate a more efficient work environment.
TCS aims to revert to its pre-pandemic work culture and move away from the hybrid model adopted during the Covid-19 pandemic. The company expressed concerns about the impact of remote work on employee interactions and the overall organizational culture. Subramaniam noted instances where employees joined and left the company entirely online, without any offline interaction, which he deemed detrimental to the organization’s growth and cohesion.
During the earnings announcement for the December quarter, TCS revealed that 65% of its employees had been attending the office for up to three days a week. With a current headcount exceeding 616,000, TCS continues to prioritize the well-being of its workforce while striving to maintain operational efficiency and security standards.
In conclusion, TCS’s decision to enforce a return to the office policy underscores the company’s commitment to fostering a conducive work environment and addressing emerging security challenges. As the deadline for employees to resume office duties approaches, TCS remains steadfast in its efforts to uphold its organizational culture and ensure the safety and productivity of its workforce.
