A serious accident unfolded at the Gokulpuri metro station today, leaving several individuals injured, with one person sustaining critical injuries. The incident occurred at around 11 a.m., as confirmed by a top police official.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for the northeast district, Joy Tirkey, the collapse of a portion of the station’s boundary wall resulted in injuries to at least 3 to 4 people. Among them, one individual was severely injured and trapped under the debris, while others suffered minor injuries.
The injured person, who was riding his scooter at the time of the incident, was promptly rescued from the rubble by police personnel and members of the public. He was immediately transported to GTB Hospital for urgent medical attention.
Delhi Fire Service officials reported that a section of the metro line’s side slab collapsed during the mishap, contributing to the injuries sustained. Efforts are underway to ascertain the injured person’s identity, while debris removal operations are ongoing with the aid of heavy machinery like JCBs and cranes.
Local police and metro staff are actively engaged at the site, coordinating rescue and cleanup efforts. The DCP indicated that a case under relevant sections of the law would be registered concerning the incident, and further investigation is underway.
The collapse of the boundary wall and the ensuing injuries have raised concerns about the safety and structural integrity of infrastructure in the area.
