The ongoing protests of Farmers in Delhi-NCR have led to traffic jams in the Noida- Greater Noida Expressway. A meeting was held between three union ministers and leaders of farmer organisations in Chandigarh. The ministers include Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda, and Nityanand Rai, who had a meeting with the farmer leaders.
On Thursday, farmers from over 100 villages of Noida and Greater Noida took to the streets which led traffic to a standstill in several parts of Delhi-NCR because they were not successful in heading towards the parliament.
‘Delhi Chalo’ March has been planned by the farmers to press for their demands which includes a law to guarantee a minimum support price for crops on February 13, 2024.
Bhagwant Mann, Punjab Chief Minister stated that an agreement was reached on various issues and importantly a law to guarantee a minimum support price for crops.
Heavy traffic jams were seen between 12 pm and 5 pm on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, DND loop, Kalindi Kunj bridge, around Dalit Prerna Sthal, Atta Chowk and Rajnigandha Chowk in Noida.
General Secretary of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Sarwan Singh Pandher, who was in the meeting with Union Ministers informed that a total of 10 new demands were put forward.
Farmer leaders stated that the Central ministers have given the surety that they will hold a second round of the meeting soon.
‘All the borders have been sealed for 24 hours and Section 144 has been imposed’, informed Noida police officials. Heavy security has been deployed at all borders.
On February 8, 2024, a detailed discussion took place, where a three-member team of Union ministers with the leaders of farmer organisations discussed farmers’ demands, which included a law to guarantee a minimum support price for crops.
