Congress, one of Bharat’s prominent political parties, has expelled Acharya Pramod Krishnam, a former member of Priyanka Gandhi’s team, for a duration of six years. This decision comes in the wake of Krishnam’s attendance at the Ayodhya Ram temple consecration ceremony, where he met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a leader of the rival Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). The move reflects tensions within Congress over Krishnam’s actions and statements, which have been perceived as critical of the party leadership.

Reasons for Expulsion: A statement issued by Congress general secretary K C Venugopal cited complaints of indiscipline and repeated anti-party statements as the basis for Krishnam’s expulsion. Krishnam had openly criticized Congress for its absence at the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Pran Pratistha ceremony, contrasting it with the BJP’s active participation. His meeting with Prime Minister Modi further fueled controversy within the party ranks.

Acharya Pramod Krishnam’s Background: Acharya Pramod Krishnam, a figure in the political landscape, had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Lucknow on a Congress ticket, albeit unsuccessfully. He has previously vied for political office in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal constituency in 2014. Krishnam was also associated with the Congress’ Uttar Pradesh advisory council, providing support to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during her tenure as the party’s UP in-charge.

Sequence of Events Leading to Expulsion: Krishnam’s recent activities, including inviting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to an event in Sambhal and meeting Prime Minister Modi, raised concerns within Congress circles. While Krishnam clarified that these interactions were related to official invitations, his praise for the Prime Minister’s involvement in the Ram Temple construction contrasted sharply with his criticism of Congress’s stance on the Ayodhya ceremony. The party viewed his actions as detrimental to its interests and discipline.

Congress’s Decision and Response: The decision to expel Krishnam for six years was approved by Congress president after the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee proposed it. General secretary KC Venugopal reiterated that Krishnam’s expulsion stemmed from his repeated anti-party remarks and allegations of indiscipline. Krishnam’s criticism of the party’s decision-making, particularly regarding significant events like the Ayodhya ceremony, had caused unease among party members.

Acharya Pramod Krishnam’s expulsion from Congress underscores the internal challenges facing the party as it navigates through political landscapes marked by competing ideologies and interests. The controversy surrounding Krishnam’s actions highlights the complexities of party politics in India, where loyalty, discipline, and strategic alliances play pivotal roles in shaping outcomes. Krishnam’s future endeavors and the repercussions of his expulsion remain subjects of keen observation within political circles.
