In a significant achievement, Bharat’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, chaired the 62nd Session of the Commission for Social Development. The session, which took place from February 5th to 14th, aimed to bolster international cooperation on social development issues, as outlined in an official statement.
The session’s priority theme, “Fostering Social Development and Social Justice through Social Policies to Accelerate Progress on the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to Achieve the Overarching Goal of Poverty Eradication,” guided discussions on crucial matters.
Ambassador Kamboj emphasized the Commission’s pivotal role in tackling global social challenges, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing these issues effectively.
One of the session’s highlights was the adoption of four resolutions under India’s chairmanship. Furthermore, Ambassador Kamboj welcomed Poland as the incoming Chair, which will lead the 63rd session of the Commission for Social Development in 2025.
During the session’s conclusion, several member states commended India’s effective leadership and contributions throughout the annual session.
