Bharat’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, kicked off his activities at the Munich Security Conference by holding discussions with key counterparts from the United Kingdom and Peru. On the sidelines of the conference, Jaishankar met with UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron and Peru Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea. The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation between Bharat and the UK, as well as addressing various global and regional issues. In a statement shared on social media platform X, Jaishankar expressed satisfaction with the talks and highlighted the ongoing cricket match between the two nations as a point of mutual interest.

Jaishankar also seized the opportunity to engage with Peru’s Foreign Minister, focusing on topics such as significant reforms within the United Nations and avenues for bolstering economic cooperation between Bharat and Peru. The meeting underscored India’s commitment to promoting multilateralism and strengthening ties with nations across the globe. Jaishankar’s interactions underscored the significance of fostering collaborative relationships to address shared challenges and harness opportunities for mutual growth.

The engagements took place as part of Jaishankar’s participation in the 60th Munich Security Conference (MSC), held in-person from February 16 to 18, 2024, at the prestigious Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich. The conference, chaired by German Ambassador to the US Christoph Heusgen, convened an array of international decision-makers, including heads of state and government, ministers, and representatives from diverse sectors. The event provided a platform for constructive dialogue on pressing global security issues and strategic cooperation.

Meanwhile, the United States announced plans for Secretary of State Antony Blinken to meet with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. The meeting aims to facilitate high-level engagements amid heightened tensions between the two nations over various issues, including security concerns and trade restrictions. Blinken’s participation in the conference, alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, reflects the US administration’s commitment to advancing its foreign policy agenda and engaging with key stakeholders on the global stage.

As the Munich Security Conference unfolds, attendees anticipate substantive discussions and initiatives aimed at addressing complex security challenges, promoting cooperation, and fostering stability in an increasingly interconnected world. The event serves as a crucial forum for shaping international discourse and forging consensus on critical issues affecting global security and stability.
