The upcoming Khelo India University Games 2024, spanning seven states from February 19-29, is yet another testament to Assam’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting sports culture. The state government aims to provide opportunities for budding athletes to showcase their skills on a national platform.
In line with this vision, Assam has embarked on a mission to establish three National Centers of Excellence and upgrade existing stadiums. These centers will serve as hubs for advanced training and rehabilitation services, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and cutting-edge sports technology to cater to the needs of athletes from the region.
The recent inauguration of the High-Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centers at Sarusajai Sports Complex and Jorhat underscores Assam’s dedication to providing top-notch support for athletes. These centers offer scientific assessment, physiotherapy, and conditioning services, ensuring the mental and physical well-being of athletes through data-driven training methodologies.
Moreover, plans are underway to transform Nehru Stadium in Guwahati into an Olympics-level football stadium, further enhancing the state’s sporting infrastructure. With the addition of multi-purpose stadiums in Amingaon and Chandrapur, Assam aims to provide world-class facilities for athletes and spectators alike.
The National Center of Excellence in Guwahati, a collaboration between the Assam government and Badminton Association of India (BAI), stands as a pinnacle of sporting infrastructure. Boasting 24 badminton courts, a modern gymnasium, player hostels, yoga center, and physiotherapy facilities, this center is set to revolutionize badminton training in India and propel the country’s success in the sport.
Spanning 40,000 square feet, the center signifies a significant milestone for Indian badminton, promising to nurture and empower the next generation of athletes. With such initiatives, Assam is paving the way for a brighter future in sports, not just for the state but for the entire North East region of Bharat.
