In Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, a concerning outbreak of bird flu has been confirmed. This outbreak was identified after numerous chickens died in two villages over recent days. Samples of the deceased chickens were promptly sent to a laboratory in Bhopal for testing. Authorities received the results confirming the presence of the avian influenza virus, prompting swift action.
In response to the confirmed outbreak, District Collector Hari Narayan took immediate action by convening an emergency meeting with officials from the animal husbandry department. During this meeting, stringent instructions were given to implement all necessary measures to prevent further spread of the disease within the region.
As a proactive measure, the district collector ordered the temporary closure of all chicken shops within a one-kilometer radius of the affected areas. Specifically, these closures will affect establishments near Chatagutla of Podalakur mandal and Gumalladibba of Kovur mandal, where the initial deaths occurred. This temporary closure is set to last for three months to mitigate the risk of further transmission.
Additionally, officials were directed to ensure proper disposal of the deceased chickens by burying them in the ground. Furthermore, gram sabhas (village meetings) are to be conducted in the affected areas to raise awareness among local residents about the situation and the necessary precautions to be taken.
Despite the alarming situation, the district collector has urged the public to remain calm, assuring them that efforts are underway to manage the outbreak. He emphasized that the health department is actively monitoring the situation and implementing precautionary measures to prevent any potential human infections.
In light of the outbreak, the public has been advised to refrain from direct contact with poultry and to promptly report any symptoms such as fever, cough, or sore throat to the nearest health center. These proactive steps aim to safeguard the health and well-being of the local population while effectively addressing the bird flu outbreak in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district.
