Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has pulled out another stunt in his ongoing tug-of-war with law. In the latest, the Delhi Chief Minister appeared before a court on Saturday, February 17, in connection with his repeated evasion of ED summons regarding the now -scrapped excise policy. Earlier, Kejriwal moved a motion of confidence in the Delhi Assembly on Friday.
The Enforcement Directorate in its complaint to the Delhi Court has reported that the Delhi Chief Minister intentionally disregarded the summons owing to multiple lame excuses. Meanwhile, Kejriwal called the summons illegal and politically motivated.
Kejriwal’s Motion of Confidence in Delhi Assembly
Accusing the BJP of trying to influence AAP MLAs, Arvind Kejriwal tabled a motion of confidence in the Delhi Assembly. “Two MLAs had come to me saying they were contracted by BJP members offering them Rs. 25 crore each. They were told that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be arrested and the government will be toppled,” Kejriwal claimed.
The Delhi Assembly on Saturday will be functioning in presence of ruling Aam Aadmi Party MLAs and leader of Opposition Ramvir Singh Bidhuri solely. As the other seven BJP legislators were suspended for the remainder of the session for allegedly obstructing the LT Governor’s address on Thursday.
This will mark the second time that Kejriwal government sought a trust vote in the 70-member Assembly. Currently, AAP has 62 MLAs and BJP has eight.
