Kavita Chaudhary, the famous ‘Udaan’ Actress passed away at the age of 67 in Amritsar due to a cardiac arrest on Thursday.
Her nephew confirmed the death. The veteran actress was famous for her role as Kalyani Singh in the 1989 TV show ‘Udaan’. On Friday, the funeral took place.
Kavita’s nephew Ajay Sayal said in an interview with a news portal, “She died due to cardiac arrest on Thursday at 8.30 pm and she breathed her last at Parvati Devi Hospital in Amritsar, where she was being treated.”
Kavita portrayed the role of IPS officer Kalyani Singh in the 1989 show ‘Udaan’. She was also the writer and director of the show, which was inspired by the life of her sister Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya, the second IPS officer after Kiran Bedi.
Kavita was celebrated as a symbol of women’s empowerment during that time because there were few female IPS officers represented in movies and television. Kavita produced television shows such as ‘Your Honour’ and ‘IPS Diaries’.
Chaudhary was quite famous for her portrayal of Lalitaji in the iconic Surf ads during the 1980s and 1990s. She played the role of a homemaker who is careful with her finances and makes wise decisions.
Her close friend Suchitra Varma penned a note for her on Instagram. “My heart feels heavy as I share this news with you all. Last night, we lost a beacon of strength, inspiration, and grace – Kaveta Chaudhary. For those who grew up in the 70s and 80s, she was the face of the Udan series on DD and the iconic ‘Surf’ commercial, but to me, she was much more than that,” she wrote.
Kiran Bedi also tweeted on X in respect of Kaveta Chaudhary. Notably, Kiran Bedi is the first female Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and former tennis player. Bedi tweeted on X, ‘Tribute To Udaan Actress Kavita Chaudhary via @indiatimes’.
