In the latest update, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday stated that, ‘The terrorist activity done by the Palestinian militant group on October 7 was an act of terrorism’.
‘Israel should be very careful of civilian casualties and observe international humanitarian law in Gaza’, said S Jaishankar.
EAM said, ‘We must be clear that what happened on October 7 was terrorism’. He further added, ‘no caveats, no justification, no explanation, it was terrorism’. According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry in Gaza, ‘The number of Palestinians killed during the war has surpassed 28,000 people’.
S Jaishankar said of the hostages that release was significant to secure a peace deal. While sharing the stage with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, S Jaishankar said, ‘The return of hostages is today important’.
He further discussed the need to establish a humanitarian, sustainable corridor in Gaza to provide relief material to the Gazan population.
EAM also talked about the requirements to have a long-term solution to the Israel-Gaza conflict. ‘Bharat’s commitment towards a two-state solution has been steady and it was more important than ever to secure a solution.
“Eventually, there has to be a permanent fix, otherwise you’re going to see repetition. Bharat has believed in a two-state solution, we maintained that position for many decades,” Jaishankar said.
He further added, “And today many more countries in the world feel not just the two-state solution is important but it is more critical than it was before,” he added.
