Assam’s Dibrugarh University has secured a massive grant of Rs 100 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan or PM-USHA scheme, marking a pivotal step towards its evolution into a Multi-Disciplinary Education and Research University-MERU.
Expressing his happiness, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced social media, “Dibrugarh University has been selected for development as a MERU under NEP, receiving a grant of Rs 100 crores. Additionally, Cotton University and Bodoland University will each receive Rs 20 crore under the University Strengthening grants.”
Established in 1965, Dibrugarh University stands as a beacon of education in Assam and the Northeast region. The news of the grant was met with jubilation as the university shared their excitement on Facebook, stating, “Dibrugarh University is thrilled to be chosen for MERU under PM-USHA. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Central Government and the Assam Government for their support in establishing us as a multi-disciplinary education and research university.”
The grant of Rs 100 crore will lead to Dibrugarh University’s expansion under which it will facilitate the diversification of academic programs, increase list of classes for students and research tools, positioning the university as a premier institution for cutting-edge studies across various disciplines.
Dibrugarh University aims to combine different fields, fostering interdisciplinary studies and collaborative research initiatives. This not only propels the university’s advancement but also enriches the educational landscape of the region.
