On Monday, the Calcutta High Court stayed section 144 in the Sandeshkhali area for the next seven days. The decision was a relief for the petitioner BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who will be allowed now to visit areas in Sandeshkhali block 2, marking a setback for the state government.
The High Court’s ruling allows Adhikari to visit Sandeshkhali. The petitioner has to submit the proposed route for his visit within the next three hours, in a move to maintain order.
Adhikari has been asked to submit an undertaking to the local police, stating that no public speeches aimed at provoking the public will be made during his visit.
Just for the safety of the visit and to prevent any disruptions, the state government is assigned to deploy proper security personnel. This measure aims to uphold law and order in the region during Suvendu Adhikari’s visit.
On Monday, the West Bengal BJP took on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the Sandeshkhali issue and claimed that “goons” were “hunting down” Hindu women and sexually assaulting them.

BJP MP Locket Chatterjee claimed while addressing a press conference in Delhi that houses of women, who alleged sexual assault by local TMC leaders, were being looted after giving news interviews.
Chatterjee claimed, ” A single statement has not been given by Mamata Banerjee till now. Shahjahan Sheikh is still escaped and the police are not able to track him down. Mamata Banerjee said no FIR has been filed. Why? Because the police did not file any case. The police administration has become TMC’s office,” she claimed.
