“Will not Forget and Forgive”: Israel Warns Brazilian President to Retract “Anti-Semitic” Remarks
The ongoing war in the Middle East region has triggered the straining of ties between Israel and Brazil after President Lula da Silva remarked that the war in the Gaza Strip is a “genocide”. Israel on Monday warned that the Brazilian president would not be welcomed until he “apologizes and retracts” his antisemitic statements. Describing the Brazilian President’s remarks as a “serious antisemitic attack”, Foreign Minister Katz stated that Lula da Silva was a “persona non grata” until he took back the remark. In response, Brazil’s Foreign Ministry recalled its ambassador to Israel.
