A group of twelve Bharatiyas, lured by promises of job opportunities in Russia, find themselves embroiled in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Among them are three men from Telangana who were tricked into joining the Russian army and sent to battlefields in Mariupol, Kharkiv, and Donetsk. The alarming situation has prompted Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi to appeal for urgent intervention from Bharatiya authorities.
The Deceptive Scheme: According to Owaisi, these Bharatiyas were victims of fraudulent job agents who falsely offered them positions as security agents in Russia. They were assured of work but were instead coerced into military service upon arrival. Prominent among the alleged perpetrators is Faisal Khan, a YouTuber with a substantial following, who purportedly facilitated the scam through his channel, ‘Baba Vlogs’.
Desperate Plea for Help: Owaisi has taken the matter seriously, having met with the families of the affected individuals. He has written to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and India’s Ambassador to Russia, urging immediate action to rescue the deceived Bharatiyas. Among those seeking assistance are Mohammed Asfan, Arbab Hussain, and Zahoor Ahmed, who are stranded in Russia, unable to contact their families for over 25 days.
Dire Circumstances: The victims, as per Owaisi’s account, were thrust into the frontline without adequate training, exposing them to grave dangers. One of their comrades has already lost his life in the conflict. The families back in India are distraught, especially considering that these individuals were the primary breadwinners.
The Ongoing Conflict: The backdrop of this distressing situation is the relentless war between Russia and Ukraine, which has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives since its onset two years ago. Despite international efforts, there seems to be no imminent resolution, with both sides entrenched in their positions. Ukrainian President Putin’s recent remarks suggest a bleak outlook for negotiations, as Russia continues to assert its dominance over the region.
The plight of these deceived Bharatiyas serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of geopolitical conflicts. As efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war falter, urgent action is needed to ensure the safety and repatriation of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire. The Indian government’s response to Owaisi’s plea remains awaited, with hopes for swift intervention to bring these individuals back home safely.
