In a significant move towards enhancing the infrastructure and facilities of Bharatiya Railways, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 28 stations under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ on February 26. The Eastern Railway, under the leadership of General Manager Milind K Deouskar, has been actively involved in ongoing development projects aimed at providing better amenities and ease of movement for passengers.
Mr. Deouskar emphasized the government’s vision of ‘Viksit Rail, Viksit Bharat 2047’, highlighting the commitment to modernizing railway stations and improving connectivity across the country. The redevelopment work encompasses a range of initiatives, including the construction of Road Overbridges (ROBs) and underpasses, aimed at facilitating smoother travel experiences for passengers.
Among the stations earmarked for redevelopment, Bandel station stands out with proposed major transformation into a world-class facility, complete with modern amenities, at an estimated cost of Rs 307 crore. This initiative reflects Eastern Railway’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure and ensuring passenger satisfaction.
Under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme,’ selected stations across divisions will receive upgraded facilities, including wider foot-over bridges, improved frontages, spacious waiting areas, and enhanced security through CCTV surveillance. Additionally, provisions such as food kiosks, accessible toilets, ramps, and signage will further enhance the passenger experience.
The redevelopment plan extends across various divisions, including Sealdah, Howrah, Asansol, and Malda, with each station earmarked for specific improvements tailored to its requirements. The initiative underscores the Ministry of Railways’ commitment to continuous development and long-term enhancement of railway stations nationwide.
Furthermore, the Eastern Railway is actively engaged in replacing manned level crossing gates with underpasses to ensure the safety of passengers and road users. With the completion of 11 underpasses and plans for 22 more at a total cost of Rs. 123.52 crores, the initiative aims to streamline traffic flow and reduce journey times for both rail and road users.
The upcoming foundation stone laying ceremony by the Prime Minister marks a significant milestone in Bharatiya Railways’ journey towards modernization and improved infrastructure. With a focus on enhancing passenger comfort and safety, initiatives like these pave the way for a more efficient and seamless travel experience across the country’s railway network.
