In Manipur, the Youth Affairs & Sports department held the State Level celebration to commemorate Sanaroishingee Numit or Players’ Day 2024 at the Indoor Stadium of Khuman Lampak Sports Complex in Imphal on Sunday. In the presence of Youth & Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Chief Guest and Chief Minister N Biren announced the provision of government jobs to all gold medallists of the 36th and 37th National Games held in Gujarat and Goa respectively. Additionally, he declared the appointment of Wushu player Naorem Roshibina Devi, who secured a silver medal in the 19th Asian Games held in China’s Hangzhou, as Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Expressing his thoughts on social media as they celebrated Shannaroishing Gee Numit, he ensured the government’s “commitment to supporting and nurturing talented sportspersons” by providing “the resources and opportunities they need to thrive”.

He launched the Maipak Sports Digital Experience Centre at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and awarded cash incentives to athletes, who excelled in national and international competitions within their respective sports. Besides, he honoured State’s seasoned players. CM Biren highlighted the newly inaugurated Digital Experience Centre would enhance training opportunities for athletes. It will serve as a hub where individuals can access information about accomplished athletes from the State and their achievements. Furthermore, the centre will display details about government initiatives aimed at supporting the welfare of athletes.

The CM revealed the Digital Experience Centre was named after esteemed bodybuilder Nongthombam Maipak Singh in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments. Maipak is known for holding the prestigious title of Mr India in 1970 and participating in Mr Universe in 1971. Appreciating him for his accomplishments, the CM stated the bodybuilder “inspired the youths of Manipur to take up bodybuilding as a profession and inspired the people to follow a healthy lifestyle”.

It was truly an honour to inaugurate the sports digital experience centre in his name. His legacy shall live on.

Detailing various schemes implemented for the welfare of athletes such as the CM’s Sportspersons Livelihood Guarantee Scheme, Khungang Ama Sanabung Ama, and others, CM Biren encouraged athletes from the State to take advantage of the oppurtunity. This initiative aims to assist athletes in establishing a sustainable way of life and securing livelihood opportunities.

Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation Limited Chairman Kh Ibomcha, Moirang MLA Th Shanti, Wangkhei MLA Th Arunkumar, Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi, Government officials, veteran sportspersons, coaches and athletes from different parts of the State attended the programme among others.
