In a significant development aimed at enhancing railway connectivity and easing commuter woes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently laid the foundation stones and inaugurated a plethora of railway infrastructure projects across Bharat. These projects, collectively valued at approximately ₹41,000 crore, encompass various initiatives aimed at modernizing and expanding the country’s railway network.
Among the numerous projects unveiled, one notable endeavor is the construction of an underpass in Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, for which the foundation stone was ceremonially laid by Prime Minister Modi. This underpass holds particular significance for the residents of Kadkad Model village, situated in close proximity to the bustling New Delhi-Ghaziabad railway section. The longstanding demand for this underpass stems from the daily hardships faced by local residents due to the frequent closure of the railway crossing, resulting in prolonged waiting periods amidst heavy railway traffic.
Speaking on the occasion, Gen VK Singh (retired), Ghaziabad MP, highlighted the crucial need for the underpass, emphasizing its anticipated benefits for the local populace. With an estimated cost of ₹10 crore, the underpass is poised to serve approximately 10,000 residents and will be constructed utilizing innovative push-box technology, featuring seven individual boxes each spanning around 10 meters in length.
Echoing the sentiments of the residents, Sushil Raghav, a Kadkad Model resident, expressed optimism regarding the underpass’s transformative impact on local mobility. Noting the current reliance on an alternate rail-over-bridge near Ramprastha, Raghav underscored the underpass’s potential to streamline commuting routes, thereby saving time and enhancing overall convenience for residents.
During the virtual inauguration event, Prime Minister Modi lauded the ongoing efforts to realize transformative changes within Bharat’s railway sector, emphasizing the emergence of a new era marked by improved amenities and enhanced infrastructure. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while participating remotely, extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for prioritizing railway development initiatives in the state.
According to the Uttar Pradesh information department, the comprehensive scope of projects unveiled includes the renovation and construction of 74 railway stations, along with the development of 267 road overbridges and underpasses across the state. These endeavors underscore the government’s steadfast commitment to bolstering railway infrastructure and fostering socio-economic progress across Uttar Pradesh and beyond.
