Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation have joined forces to introduce ‘Vantara’, a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to the rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured, abused, and endangered animals both in Bharat and globally.
Anant Ambani, a director on the boards of Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation, is the mastermind behind this ambitious project, which is hailed as the world’s largest animal rescue and rehabilitation center.
The initiative, the brainchild of Anant Ambani, aims to create a safe haven for animals in need. It is the first of its kind in the country and is set to revolutionize animal welfare efforts.
Situated within the lush ‘Green Belt’ of Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex, the Vantara animal shelter spans an impressive 3,000 acres. Designed to mimic natural habitats, the shelter provides a nurturing environment for rescued animals to thrive.
With over 2,000 rescued animals already under its care, Vantara is committed to offering sanctuary to creatures from across the country and around the world.
In an interview, Anant Ambani revealed that his mother, philanthropist Nita Ambani, played a pivotal role in inspiring this initiative. He shared a poignant childhood memory of rescuing an elephant with his mother, highlighting her compassion for animals.
Vantara boasts an extensive roster of inhabitants, including over 200 elephants, 300 large felines such as leopards, tigers, lions, and jaguars, as well as thousands of herbivores and reptiles.
The company emphasizes that all animals were brought to the shelter with the necessary approvals from wildlife authorities, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
Looking ahead, Vantara aims to collaborate with the Zoo Authority of Bharat and other governmental organizations to enhance the welfare standards of zoos across the country. Anant Ambani envisions providing training, capacity building, and infrastructure support to over 150 zoos in India.
With its unwavering dedication to animal welfare and conservation, Vantara stands as a beacon of hope for creatures in need, embodying the spirit of compassion and stewardship towards the natural world.
