Nepal’s Foreign Secretary, Sewa Lamsal, is set to participate in the eighth Asia Economic Dialogue (AED 2024) in Pune, India, from February 29 to March 2, according to Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Lamsal’s attendance underscores Nepal’s commitment to regional economic cooperation and dialogue.
Lamsal’s itinerary includes a departure for India on February 27, where she will attend the inaugural session of the AED 2024 on February 29. Additionally, she is scheduled to meet her Bharatiya counterpart, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, in New Delhi during her visit. Her return to Kathmandu is planned for March 1, following the conclusion of her engagements in India.
The Asia Economic Dialogue serves as a platform for multilateral discussions on contemporary issues, with AED 2024 focusing on the theme “Geo-economic Challenges in an Era of Flux.” The event features participation from various speakers representing different countries, providing an opportunity for exchange and collaboration on critical economic matters.
The bilateral relations between Bharat and Nepal are characterized by a long-standing friendship and cooperation, marked by an open border and deep cultural ties. This visit follows Nepal’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Narayan Prakash Saud’s recent participation in the Raisina Dialogue 2024 in New Delhi, held from February 21 to 24. During the Raisina Dialogue, Minister Saud engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Nepal and India.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, in a meeting with Minister Saud during the Raisina Dialogue, expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory of bilateral relations. In a social media post, Jaishankar welcomed Minister Saud’s active participation in the event, highlighting the importance of India’s neighbors’ presence in such forums.
