Prime Minister Narendra Modi met German singer Cassandra Mae Spittmann on Sunday and her mother in Palladam, Tamil Nadu.
PM Modi especially mentioned ‘Spittman’ in one of the ‘Mann Ki Baat programmes’. The German singer is known for singing songs, especially devotional ones in several Bharatiya languages.
She sang ‘Achyutam Keshavam’ and a Tamil song while meeting PM Modi on Tuesday. A video of a German woman singing the famous bhajan ‘Ram Aayenge’ grabbed immense attention before the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
The news agency, ANI shared a video of Cassandra Mae Spittmann’s performance on January 18 and her video had gained lakhs of views and likes. A 21-year old singer, Cassandra is known for singing Bharatiya songs in multiple languages – Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali, and Kannada.
She was born with blindness but this did not stop her from pursuing music. Her Instagram biography describes her as a “German Singer-Songwriter in love with India” and she has over five lakh Instagram followers.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated Cassandra’s singing and her keen interest in Bharatiya music on Mann Ki Baat in the September 2014, radio program. He played two songs sung by Cassandra on the radio show.
He introduced her to the listeners and said, “What a sweet voice. Through the emotions reflected in every word, we can feel her love for God. If I disclose that this melodious voice belongs to a daughter from Germany, perhaps you will be even more surprised! The name of this daughter is – Cassandra Mae Spittmann.”
