Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to Assam starting from March 8, with an exciting itinerary that includes a stay at the picturesque Kaziranga National Park, as confirmed by an official statement.
On arrival at Kaziranga, PM Modi will spend the night before embarking on a thrilling jungle safari the following morning. Subsequently, he will head to Jorhat to participate in a series of scheduled events.
Assam Forest and Environment Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary took a proactive step by visiting Kaziranga National Park to convene discussions with key officials, including Chief Secretary Paban Borthakur and Director General of Police GP Singh, to ensure perfect arrangements for the PM’s visit.
Arrangements have been meticulously organised for both jeep and elephant safaris within the park premises, providing a unique opportunity for PM Modi to experience the natural splendour of Kaziranga.
This year, Kaziranga National Park is commemorating its golden jubilee, having been declared a national park in February 1974.
On March 9, PM Modi is slated to unveil an enormous bronze statue, standing over 125 feet high, honouring legendary Ahom General Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat.
Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone of the Sivasagar Medical College, partake in a ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony for 5.5 lakh homes constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-PMAY, and address a public gathering at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat.
Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, during a visit to Lachit Barphukan’s memorial at Lahdoigarh in Hollongapar area on February 15, announced plans to develop the site into a Lachit Barphukan Cultural Centre. Furthermore, plans for two museums — one dedicated to the Ahom era and another showcasing artifacts from the war period — are in the works.
Lachit Barphukan holds an esteemed place in Assam’s history for his valour in the 1671 naval ‘Battle of Saraighat’ on the River Brahmaputra, where he successfully repelled the Mughal Army.
