Singapore’s High Commissioner to Bharat, Simon Wong, recently held a series of meetings in Madhya Pradesh, strengthening ties between Singapore and the Bharatiya state. One such meeting was with Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, whom Wong referred to as an “old friend and champion” of the relationship between Singapore and Madhya Pradesh. Wong praised Chouhan for his wisdom, gained from his extensive tenure as one of India’s longest-serving Chief Ministers.
In another engagement, Wong met with Madhya Pradesh’s Higher Education and Technical Education Minister, Inder Singh Parmar, and his officials. Discussions revolved around enhancing educational cooperation between Madhya Pradesh and Singapore. Both sides explored avenues to further collaboration in the education sector, aiming to benefit students and institutions in both regions.
During his visit, Wong also took the opportunity to tour the Madhya Pradesh Global Skills Park, which is supported by the Information Technology Enterprise Singapore (ITESpore). Impressed by the institution’s world-class education offerings, Wong commended its remarkable achievement of achieving a 100% job placement rate for its students. The visit left Wong inspired by the dedication to skill development and educational excellence exhibited by the institution and its students.
Reflecting on Bharat’s rich cultural diversity, Wong shared his experiences from the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland, a 10-day annual cultural extravaganza celebrating the state’s ethnic diversity. Through vibrant displays of folk dances, traditional music, local cuisine, and handicrafts, the festival encapsulates Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage. Known as the “Festival of Festivals,” the Hornbill Festival serves as a platform to showcase Nagaland’s unique identity and foster cultural exchange.
Wong’s engagements in Madhya Pradesh underscore Singapore’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Bharatiya states and deepening cooperation in various sectors, including education and culture. As both nations continue to foster closer ties, such exchanges contribute to mutual understanding, economic growth, and cultural enrichment for the benefit of both Singapore and Bharat.
