Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a comprehensive and politically charged itinerary, marked by key announcements and strategic visits. The month promises major political developments, including the release of the first BJP candidate list, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s crucial state visits, and the Opposition’s efforts to maintain unity.
BJP Candidate List in the Spotlight:
The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) convened on Thursday night at its Delhi headquarters, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussions continued late into the night, with the announcement of the first batch of candidates expected in the next three days. Sources suggest that the list could be unveiled as early as Friday.
PM Modi’s State Visits and Project Unveilings:
On Friday, Prime Minister Modi is set to embark on visits to key states, starting with Sindri in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district. Around 11 am, he will participate in a public program, inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for development projects totaling Rs 35,700 crore. These projects include a fertiliser plant in Sindri, an NTPC power plant, and various rail projects.
Later in the day, at 3 pm, PM Modi will visit Arambagh in West Bengal’s Hooghly district. There, he will unveil and lay the foundation for projects worth Rs 7,200 crore. This includes Indian Oil’s 518-km Haldia-Barauni crude oil pipeline, developed at an estimated cost of Rs 2,790 crore. Additionally, the PM will launch crucial rail projects and initiatives aimed at strengthening the Kolkata port.
Political Dynamics in Bengal:
PM Modi’s visit to Bengal comes amidst political turbulence, especially in the aftermath of incidents in Sandeshkhali, North 24 Parganas district. The expulsion of former Trinamool Congress (TMC) strongman Shahjahan Sheikh, arrested in connection with an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team, has put the TMC on the defensive. The expelled leader faces charges of sexual violence and land-grabbing.
PM Modi’s approach to the TMC, a formidable regional party that the BJP is yet to overcome, will be a key focus on Friday. Bengal’s political landscape is crucial for the BJP’s goal of achieving 370-plus seats and 50% votes, especially considering the party’s diminished presence in the state since making gains five years ago. Observers will closely monitor how the BJP addresses the political challenges in Bengal as part of the unfolding electoral narrative.
