As March sets in, Bharat gears up for the Lok Sabha elections, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is at the forefront of the political scene. The party is all set to unveil its first list of candidates in the coming days. Discussions led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi were held late into the night at the party’s headquarters in Delhi. It is anticipated that the list will be released within the next three days, possibly as early as Friday.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit key states, starting with Sindri in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district. Here, he will inaugurate various development projects worth Rs 35,700 crore, including a fertiliser plant and rail projects. Later, he will travel to Arambagh in West Bengal to unveil projects worth Rs 7,200 crore, including the inauguration of a crucial crude oil pipeline developed by Indian Oil. His visit to West Bengal comes amidst political turmoil in the state, particularly following recent incidents in Sandeshkhali.
PM Modi’s visit to West Bengal holds significant political implications, especially considering the state’s pivotal role in the upcoming elections. The BJP aims to strengthen its position in Bengal, a state where it has faced challenges from regional parties like the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The recent expulsion of a former TMC leader accused of various crimes adds further complexity to the political landscape.
Simultaneously, preparations for the elections are in full swing, with the deployment of over 3.4 lakh central armed police force (CAPF) personnel set to begin. These personnel will be mobilised to sensitive and hyper-sensitive constituencies across various states, including West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir. The Election Commission has requested the deployment of CAPF units to ensure security during the elections.
In Karnataka, the Congress-led government faces a challenge regarding the release of a caste survey report. The report has stirred controversy among dominant communities like the Lingayats and Vokkaligas, who fear that their numbers may be misrepresented. Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, representing the Vokkaliga community, has voiced opposition to the report, highlighting the internal divisions within the Congress.
As the Lok Sabha elections draw near, political activities intensify across Bharat. The BJP’s candidate list announcement, PM Modi’s state visits, and election preparations mark significant milestones in the run-up to the polls. Meanwhile, in Karnataka, the Congress grapples with internal challenges concerning the caste survey report, reflecting the broader complexities of Bharatiya politics.
