In a recent development, Tamil Nadu minister Anitha Radhakrishnan from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party acknowledged an error in an advertisement concerning the inauguration of a new ISRO facility. Radhakrishnan stated that the inclusion of a Chinese rocket in the ad was a “small mistake” overlooked by officials responsible for its design.

The controversy arose when Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the MK Stalin-led government for featuring a Chinese rocket in the advertisement. Modi accused the DMK of attempting to claim undeserved credit for the ISRO facility by including the Chinese imagery. He emphasized that such actions not only insulted India’s scientists and the space sector but also undermined the nation’s progress in space exploration.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) further fueled the controversy by interpreting the advertisement as evidence of the DMK’s affinity towards China. K Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP president, asserted that the ad reflected the DMK’s allegiance to China and its disregard for India’s sovereignty. He condemned the DMK for attempting to associate itself with India’s achievements while allegedly prioritizing ties with China.

In response to Modi’s criticism and BJP’s accusations, DMK MP Kanimozhi defended her party’s stance, highlighting that Bharat had not declared China as an enemy nation. She pointed out instances where PM Modi himself had engaged with Chinese leadership, suggesting a lack of justification for portraying China negatively. Kanimozhi urged for a focus on truth rather than diverting attention from the core issue.

The controversy surrounding the ISRO ad underscores the complex dynamics between political parties and their perceptions of national interests. While the DMK admits to an oversight in the advertisement, the BJP seizes the opportunity to criticize its rival and question its allegiances. As the political discourse intensifies, the episode serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between domestic politics and international relations in Bharat’s evolving landscape.
