The Manik Saha led Tripura Government is on a mission to achieve self-sufficiency in milk, eggs, fish, and meat production, stated Animal Resource Development Minister Sudhangshu Das. In line with this objective, the government plans to aid 50,000 rural women in establishing poultry farms, aiming to boost meat and egg production while empowering women simultaneously.
“The project will serve dual purpose of increasing meat and egg production and at the same time empowering women,” asserted Das.
Furthermore, the government has initiated special programs to ensure the health of domestic animals, conducting vaccination drives two to three times a year to prevent diseases. To provide immediate medical assistance to critically ill animals, a mobile veterinary service has been launched. By dialling the helpline number 1962, individuals can summon a mobile veterinary unit to their location within an hour for prompt medical care.
Highlighting the government’s focus on enhancing livelihood opportunities in the primary sector, Minister Das highlighted efforts to support families in establishing small units for dairy, goatery, piggery, and poultry. Under a special scheme, 37,000 families have already received government support to set up such units, contributing to the agricultural allied sector’s growth and economic development in Tripura.
