Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing critique of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal, accusing the party of corruption and asserting that it symbolizes atrocity and betrayal. Addressing a crowd in Krishnanagar, PM Modi expressed disappointment in the TMC government’s performance despite receiving repeated mandates from the people. He called upon voters to support the BJP extensively in the upcoming elections, setting a target for the party to secure all 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
“Despite the trust placed in them by the people of West Bengal, the TMC has become synonymous with atrocity and betrayal,” PM Modi declared, emphasizing the need for change in governance. He exuded confidence in the BJP’s potential to form the government, stating, “With your overwhelming support, the NDA government will secure more than 400 seats.”
PM Modi highlighted the distressing situation in Sandeshkhali, where women accused TMC leaders of sexual abuse. He criticized the state government for allegedly siding with the accused instead of addressing the grievances of the victims. “Mothers and sisters pleaded for justice, but the TMC government turned a deaf ear. They campaigned on the slogan of ‘Maa Mati Manush’ (Mother, Land, People), but today, mothers and sisters are in tears,” PM Modi lamented.
Earlier in the week, a local TMC leader, Shahjahan Sheikh, and his aide Ajit Maity were arrested following allegations of sexual assault and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali. Their arrests came after protests by women who accused them of extortion and land grabbing.
During his two-day visit to West Bengal, PM Modi inaugurated various development projects aimed at bolstering infrastructure and connectivity in the state. Projects included the doubling of rail lines, introduction of new rail lines, and the expansion of thermal power stations, emphasizing the government’s commitment to economic development and progress.
Later in the day, PM Modi is scheduled to visit Bihar’s Aurangabad to lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth over ₹21,400 crore, underscoring the government’s focus on comprehensive development across regions.
