The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has resulted in the loss of thousands of lives, including women and children, continues to escalate despite efforts for peace. Amidst this strife, Bharat’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, has advocated for a ‘two-state solution’ to bring about lasting peace and end the violence.
During her address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Meeting on the Use of Veto, Kamboj emphasized Bharat’s clear stance on the conflict. She stressed that only through direct negotiations between both sides on final status issues can enduring peace be achieved. Bharat stands committed to supporting a Two-State solution, allowing the Palestinian people to live freely in an independent country with secure borders, while also considering Israel’s security needs.
Furthermore, Kamboj urged for immediate de-escalation of the conflict, emphasizing the importance of avoiding violence, releasing hostages, and refraining from actions that could provoke further escalation. She highlighted the alarming humanitarian crisis resulting from the ongoing conflict, particularly the loss of civilian lives, especially among women and children, which she deemed unacceptable.
Bharat has consistently condemned the deaths of civilians in the conflict and stressed the importance of upholding international law and humanitarian principles at all times. Kamboj reiterated Bharat’s stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, condemning the terror attacks that triggered the conflict on October 7.
In addition to advocating for peace and condemning violence, Kamboj called for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza to prevent further deterioration of the situation. She urged all parties to come together in this effort, welcoming the efforts of the UN and the international community in providing aid to the people of Palestine. Bharat has pledged to continue providing humanitarian assistance to Palestine.
Meanwhile, in related news, Israel has opted out of the Cairo Talks, citing Hamas’s failure to respond to their demands regarding the release of hostages and Palestinian prisoners. Israel had requested a list of hostages specifying their status and demanded clarification on the ratio of Palestinian prisoners to be released from Israeli prisons in exchange for the hostages. However, Hamas’s refusal to comply has led to Israel’s decision to abstain from the talks.
