The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly criticized the INDI bloc, comprising opposition parties, over reported comments made by DMK leader A Raja regarding Hinduism and the identity of Bharat. The BJP accused the INDI bloc of making insulting remarks about Hinduism and Lord Ram as part of their political agenda.
At a press conference held at the BJP headquarters, senior party leader and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad highlighted Raja’s recent speech in Tamil where he allegedly stated that “India is not a nation.” Prasad described this viewpoint as “Maoist ideology” and expressed condemnation for it.
BJP Questions Opposition’s Stand
Ravi Shankar Prasad challenged members of the Congress and other parties within the INDI bloc to clarify their stance on Raja’s remarks. He specifically called out prominent figures like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Mallikarjun Kharge, asking if they agreed with Raja’s statements.
The BJP leader emphasized the party’s strong disapproval of such comments and urged others to join in condemning them.
Defamation of Bharat and Hinduism Alleged
Prasad accused the INDI bloc of consistently engaging in actions that defame Bharat’s identity and insult its faith. He stated that insulting Bharat’s ethos, ridiculing Hindu deities, and challenging the concept of Bharat itself have become integral to the political agenda of the INDI bloc.
Prasad urged against disrespecting Hindu sentiments and emphasized the importance of respecting all faiths, quoting from the Rig Veda to underline the message of unity in diversity.
Reference to Supreme Court’s Criticism
In a reference to a recent incident involving Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Prasad reminded of the Supreme Court’s rebuke. The court had chastised Stalin for his remarks against Sanatan Dharma, advising him to be mindful of his statements as a public figure.
The bench of justices, while addressing Stalin, highlighted the responsibility that comes with holding a ministerial position and cautioned against irresponsible speech.
Overall, the BJP’s condemnation of A Raja’s remarks reflects a broader concern within the party regarding the perceived denigration of Bharat’s culture and religious beliefs by opposition figures within the INDI bloc.
