In a move aimed at providing relief to consumers, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has announced a significant reduction in the prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). The price cut, effective from March 7, sees a decrease of ₹2.5 per kg, bringing down the cost of CNG to ₹74.09 per kg in Delhi.
This reduction in CNG prices also extends to several cities in Haryana, offering commuters in these areas more affordable fuel options. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) conveyed this update through a statement on social media, stating that the revised prices will be applicable across all geographical areas serviced by IGL.
Following the adjustment, consumers in Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad will now pay ₹78.70 per kg for CNG. In Gurugram, the new price stands at ₹80.12 per kg. Meanwhile, in Rewari and Karnal, CNG will be available at ₹78.70 and ₹80.43 per kg, respectively.
This price revision comes amidst efforts to encourage the utilization of natural gas in the transportation sector. The move is aimed at boosting the consumption of CNG, which is considered a cleaner and more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional fuels.
The decision by IGL follows a similar move by Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), which reduced CNG prices in Mumbai by ₹2.5 per kg, bringing it down to ₹73.50 per kg. Such adjustments in pricing aim to make CNG more accessible and attractive to consumers, ultimately contributing to reducing vehicular emissions and promoting sustainable practices in urban areas.
The reduction in CNG prices is expected to bring relief to commuters, particularly those reliant on public transportation and commercial vehicles. Lower fuel costs can also have a positive impact on businesses, potentially leading to savings for transport operators and reducing operational expenses.
With environmental concerns and sustainability gaining prominence, the shift towards cleaner fuel options like CNG aligns with broader efforts towards mitigating air pollution and combating climate change. Continued initiatives to make CNG more affordable and widely available are crucial steps towards creating a greener and more sustainable future for urban transportation.
