A recent report from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) has unveiled a remarkable increase in the involvement of women in the workforce across Uttar Pradesh. The state, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has seen a significant rise in women’s labor force participation, soaring from 14.2 per cent in 2017-18 to an impressive 32.10 per cent in 2022-23.
This surge underscores the relentless efforts undertaken by the Chief Minister’s administration towards the upliftment of women in the state. The report attributes this positive trend to an environment fostered by the government, where women feel secure, respected, and are actively encouraged to achieve self-reliance.
Compared to the national average of 39.80 per cent for women’s labor force participation in the fiscal year 2022-23, Uttar Pradesh’s rate stands at 32.10 per cent, marking significant progress from the 14.2 per cent recorded in 2017-18.
The policies implemented by the Yogi government over the past seven years have clearly prioritized women’s empowerment. Women are being actively encouraged to participate in various employment schemes, with a particular focus on fostering entrepreneurship.
Initiatives such as the Mudra Yojana, aimed at promoting new women entrepreneurs, have been instrumental in providing financial support to women, even from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Approximately 70 per cent of the total loans under this scheme have been granted to women nationwide.
Moreover, through schemes like the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana and the National Livelihood Mission, women are being connected with self-help groups and provided with opportunities for skill development, thereby enhancing their economic self-reliance.
The Yogi government’s commitment to women’s empowerment extends beyond economic avenues. The state has emerged as a leader in ensuring swift justice for crimes against women and children, with the establishment of fast-track courts and measures to facilitate women’s participation in night shifts.
Historic steps such as opening Sainik schools for girls and increasing assistance under schemes like the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana demonstrate the government’s dedication to promoting education and welfare for girls and women from marginalized backgrounds.
Additionally, welfare schemes like the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana and financial assistance programs for destitute women underscore the government’s commitment to social inclusion and support for vulnerable groups.
The Yogi government’s multifaceted approach towards women’s empowerment, encompassing economic, social, and educational dimensions, has garnered praise for its effectiveness in fostering a more inclusive and equitable society in Uttar Pradesh.
