In a heartwarming gesture ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Assam, the town of Bokakhat in Golaghat district witnessed a spectacular display of hospitality as locals illuminated 1 lakh diyas (earthen lamps) on Thursday evening. The dazzling sight aimed to extend a warm welcome to the esteemed guest.
The event saw the presence of notable figures including Assam Agriculture Minister and local MLA Atul Bora, State Forest Minister Chandramohan Patowary, and Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, who joined hands with the community to make the occasion memorable.
Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit Kaziranga on the evening of March 8, where he will spend the night at the renowned Kaziranga National Park. On the following morning of March 9, he will embark on a visit to Kaziranga, an iconic wildlife destination.
During his stay, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several pivotal development projects aimed at bolstering Assam’s progress. Among these projects is the ambitious Rs 3,992 crore pipeline venture connecting Barauni to Guwahati, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma earlier.
Furthermore, PM Modi is set to initiate the expansion plans for two crucial refineries in Assam. The first involves expanding the Digboi Refinery’s capacity from 0.65 Million MT to 1 Million MT, costing Rs 768 crores. The second entails enlarging the Guwahati Refinery from 1 million MT to 1.2 million MT, with a budget of Rs 510 crore.
As the political landscape gears up for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Modi is also slated to address a rally at Meleng Meteli. Moreover, he will inaugurate a slew of projects, representing collaborative efforts between the central and state governments, underscoring the collective vision for Assam’s prosperity.
