In a significant development on International Women’s Day, President Droupadi Murmu has nominated renowned author and philanthropist Sudha Murty to the Rajya Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his joy and congratulated Ms. Murty, highlighting her contributions to various fields.

The President of Bharat nominates 12 members to the Upper House of Parliament for their notable contributions in arts, literature, sciences, and social services.
Sudha Murty, the wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and mother-in-law to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, is widely recognized for her simplicity and candidness. She received the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India, last year for her outstanding social work and had previously been honored with the Padma Shri in 2006.
Ms. Murty, who began her career as an engineer with TELCO (now Tata Motors), currently serves as the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. A prolific writer in both English and Kannada, her books have been translated into all major Indian languages. Her nomination to the Rajya Sabha is seen as a powerful symbol of women’s empowerment and their crucial role in shaping the nation’s future.
