Residents of a posh community in Bengaluru have been forced to visit a nearby mall every day to use washrooms because of the city’s worsening water crisis according to a viral Reddit post.
While residents of the society had already used disposable plates and cutlery to minimize water usage, the crisis has forced many to line up at a nearby mall to use its washrooms.
Reddit user and community resident “Familiar-Art-8675” claimed that it had been more than a month since the community received regular, round-the-clock water supply.
The Reddit user claimed that many tenants have vacated their apartments while others have moved to temporary accommodations. Those with no recourse have been using disposable plates to eat their food or ordering in to cut down on water used for washing utensils and cooking food.
There was a time when Bangalore malls were used for people discussing start-up ideas and now people are using it to bathe and toilet because their 1.5cr flats have no water.
Waste disposable presents another — bigger — problem. “You get to smell the stink of unflushed human excreta in toilet bowls from far away,” the Reddit user claimed.
“It’s not uncommon to see a line of residents going to the nearby mall to do their business.” Some people have been going to their gyms with towels and a spare change of clothes so they can have a bath.
All of this happening in an upmarket residential complex paints a sorry picture. For many, the situation is especially awful because they are paying EMIs on home loans worth more than Rs 1 crore, while not receiving basic facilities in return.
