The All India Congress Committee has unveiled its initial list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, covering 39 constituencies across several states including Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Sikkim.
In a notable move, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has decided to recontest from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency, which he had won in the 2019 elections. Similarly, Shashi Tharoor, a prominent figure within the party, will be vying for the Thiruvananthapuram seat, setting up a faceoff with BJP’s Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
Among the candidates announced from Telangana, there is representation for women as well. Patnam Sunitha Mahender Reddy has been nominated to contest from the Chevella Lok Sabha seat. She is the spouse of former minister Patnam Mahender Reddy of the BRS party. Her opponent in this constituency will be ex-MP Konda Vishveshwar Reddy representing the BJP.
K Raghuveer Reddy, son of Congress stalwart K Jana Reddy, has been given the ticket to contest from the Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency. This marks the second instance of the family receiving a ticket, with K Jaiveer Reddy, another son of Jana Reddy, successfully contesting and winning the Nagarjuna Sagar assembly seat in the 2023 elections.
In another nomination, former union minister Porika Balram Naik is set to contest from the Mahbubabad constituency, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST). Meanwhile, Suresh Kumar Shetkar has been named as the candidate from Zahirabad.
The announcement of these candidates signifies Congress’s strategic positioning and preparation for the upcoming electoral battle. With a mix of experienced leaders and fresh faces, the party aims to strengthen its presence and voice in the Lok Sabha, addressing the diverse needs and aspirations of the constituencies they represent.
