Several Bharatiya nationals have fallen victim to a deceitful scheme involving recruitment into the Russian Army, as disclosed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday. The MEA expressed firm disapproval of the situation, urging the Russian government to promptly release these individuals. Furthermore, the Bharatiya government has initiated robust measures against agents and deceptive entities responsible for luring Bharatiya citizens into such false engagements.
Addressing the issue, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the plight of Bharatiya nationals who were misled into working for the Russian Army. The MEA has actively engaged with Russian authorities to secure the early discharge of these individuals. Moreover, stringent actions have been taken against agents and entities involved in the deceptive recruitment process, with recent efforts by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) yielding significant progress.
Jaiswal highlighted the recent crackdown by the CBI on a major human trafficking network, uncovering evidence of illicit recruitment practices. Multiple agents have been implicated in the trafficking, leading to the registration of human trafficking cases against them. This development underscores the seriousness with which the Bharatiya government is tackling the issue and seeking justice for the victims.
Expressing grave concern for the affected individuals, Jaiswal urged Bharatiya nationals to exercise caution against offers from agents promising support jobs with the Russian Army. He emphasized the inherent dangers and risks associated with such arrangements, underscoring the commitment to ensuring the safe return of these individuals to Bharat.
Efforts to assist affected individuals are underway, with approximately 20 individuals seeking assistance from the MEA. The ministry is actively working to locate and provide aid to these individuals, while maintaining continuous communication with Russian authorities to expedite their release and repatriation.
Meanwhile, the CBI’s ongoing investigation has revealed disturbing details about the trafficking network’s operations. These traffickers, operating as an organized network, targeted Indian nationals through social media platforms and local agents, promising lucrative jobs in Russia. However, victims were coerced into combat roles and deployed to the Russia-Ukraine war zone against their will, endangering their lives.
As the investigation progresses, several suspects have been detained for questioning, with around 35 instances of victims being sent abroad confirmed so far. Efforts are also underway to identify additional victims of trafficking. The CBI has issued an appeal to the public to remain vigilant against false promises of overseas employment by dubious recruitment agencies and agents.
In light of these developments, the Bharatiya government remains steadfast in its commitment to combating human trafficking and ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens both at home and abroad.
