Earlier, PM Modi was warmly welcomed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma upon his arrival at Tezpur airport in Sonitpur district. An official statement from the Chief Minister’s Office announced PM Modi’s itinerary, highlighting his visit to Kaziranga National Park for an overnight stay and safari the following morning.
Kaziranga National Park, often hailed as Assam’s crowned jewel, boasts the largest habitat of one-horned rhinos, over 600 species of birds, a thriving population of dolphins, and one of the highest densities of tigers. The park, established in 1908 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, is nestled on the edge of the Eastern Himalayan biodiversity hotspots in Golaghat and Nagaon districts.
During his visit, PM Modi is slated to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for various development projects in the state. These include the inauguration of Tinsukia Medical College and laying the foundation stone for Sivasagar Medical College under the PM-DIVINE scheme. Additionally, PM Modi will oversee the expansion projects of Digboi Refinery and Guwahati Refinery, along with inaugurating a pipeline project from Barauni to Guwahati.
Furthermore, PM Modi will address a rally at Meleng Meteli and inaugurate several projects undertaken by both the central and state governments. He is also scheduled to perform the ‘Griha Pravesh’ ceremony for houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and address a public gathering at Meleng Meteli Pothar in Jorhat.
On March 9, PM Modi is set to embark on a Jeep Safari or elephant ride inside Kaziranga National Park, famous for its one-horned rhinos. The visit holds significance as the BJP gears up for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls scheduled for April-May, with preparations already underway.
