In a significant visit to Assam today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a towering 84-foot statue in honor of Lachit Borphukan, the revered General of the Royal Army of the Ahom Kingdom of Assam. General Borphukan is celebrated for his historic victory over the Mughals. The event took place in Assam, where PM Modi paid tribute to the region’s rich history.
Moving to Jorhat, the Prime Minister inaugurated several crucial developmental projects aimed at strengthening the health, oil and gas, rail, and housing sectors. The public event witnessed the dedication of these projects, emphasizing the government’s commitment to regional growth.
Not limiting the developmental efforts to Assam, PM Modi extended his focus to Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh during an event in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. In his address, he highlighted the impressive progress made in the construction of National Highways in the Northeast over the past decade.
“From Independence till 2014, around 10,000 km of National Highway was constructed in the Northeast. However, in the last 10 years, more than 6,000 km of National Highway has been constructed. I completed the work of seven decades in just one,” PM Modi declared in Itanagar.
Taking a swipe at the Congress party, he criticized their neglect of border villages during their term. “Congress had neglected the border villages and termed it the last village. But for me, this is the first village, and so we started the Vibrant Village Programme,” the Prime Minister asserted. He further promised the people of Arunachal Pradesh that they could witness ‘Modi Ki Guarantee’ in the state, emphasizing his commitment to inclusive development.
The visit not only showcased the unveiling of a monumental statue but also underlined the government’s dedication to fostering growth and prosperity in the Northeastern states of Bharat.
