President Droupadi Murmu, the President of Bharat, has embarked on a significant three-day state visit to Mauritius, strengthening the longstanding friendship between the two nations. The visit commenced with a warm welcome from the Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Jugnauth, who greeted President Murmu with full state honors upon her arrival at the airport on Monday.
President Murmu’s visit holds special significance as she is slated to be the Chief Guest at Mauritius’ National Day celebrations, marking a milestone in the bilateral relations between Bharat and Mauritius. She becomes the sixth Bharatiya President to grace this occasion since 2000, highlighting the enduring ties between the two countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of Bharat emphasized the importance of President Murmu’s visit, affirming the commitment of both nations to further strengthen bilateral relations across various sectors and deepen people-to-people ties. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the visit as a “new milestone” in India-Mauritius relations.
During her stay, President Murmu is scheduled to engage in bilateral meetings with key Mauritian leaders, including President Prithvirajsing Roopun and Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. Additionally, she will meet with the Speaker of the Mauritius National Assembly and the Chief Justice of the Mauritian Supreme Court.
A highlight of the visit is the inauguration of 14 Bharat-assisted projects by President Murmu and Prime Minister Jugnauth, showcasing the breadth of Bharat’s development partnership with Mauritius. These projects demonstrate the multifaceted nature of cooperation between the two nations.
Furthermore, President Murmu will witness the exchange of important bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening institutional collaboration and capacity-building cooperation between Bharat and Mauritius.
In addition to official engagements, President Murmu will address Mauritian youth at the University of Mauritius and various socio-cultural organizations. She will also engage with members of the Indian diaspora and the Bharatiya community at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, emphasizing the strong cultural ties between Bharat and Mauritius.
The visit also includes participation by a contingent of the Bharatiya Navy, along with two ships of the Bharatiya Navy’s First Training Squadron, in the National Day celebrations of Mauritius, underscoring the defense cooperation between the two nations.
President Murmu’s visit underscores the deep-rooted and enduring partnership between Bharat and Mauritius, with a focus on enhancing cooperation across various sectors for the mutual benefit of both nations.
