In a recent meeting between Bharatiya National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, discussions centered around regional developments and the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu updated Doval on the latest Gaza fighting, including efforts to release hostages and address the humanitarian crisis.
The meeting, attended by Director of the National Security Council Tzachi Hanegbi, Prime Minister’s Foreign Policy Advisor, and the Bharatiya Ambassador to Israel, highlighted Bharat’s engagement in promoting peace in the region. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been actively communicating with key leaders in the Middle East, such as the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan.
Bharat’s Support and Humanitarian Assistance
Bharat has been supportive of humanitarian efforts in Gaza, sending essential items to help the Palestinian population. The conflict erupted when Hamas-led militants entered southern Israel on October 7, resulting in casualties and hostages.
Netanyahu expressed the intention to initiate military operations in Rafah to prevent a recurrence of the October 7 incident. Defending his policies in the Gaza Strip, he responded to US President Joe Biden’s criticism, asserting that a majority of Israelis support his approach.
Cease-Fire Talks and Ongoing Conflict
Efforts to broker a cease-fire, involving the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, faced challenges as both sides rejected each other’s conditions. The goal was to secure a truce ahead of Ramadan, including the release of hostages, prisoners, and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reported a rising death toll, with 67 people killed in the past 24 hours due to Israeli strikes, bringing the total to over 31,000 deaths. The prolonged conflict has displaced 80% of Gaza’s 2.3 million people, leaving hundreds of thousands on the brink of famine.
