Former Congress leader and wife of the former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Preneet Kaur, has made a significant political move by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi. This decision comes ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, where sources indicate that Preneet Kaur will contest from the Patiala constituency on a BJP ticket.
Expressing her commitment to serve her constituency, state, and country, Preneet Kaur stated, “I will work for my constituency, my state, and the country under the leadership of PM Modi. I had a good innings with the Congress party and I hope I’ll have a better innings with the BJP. That depends on the BJP (whether she will contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections or not),” according to news agency ANI. Preneet Kaur’s departure from the Congress party stemmed from her suspension due to alleged anti-party activities.
Having served as a four-time Member of Parliament and holding the position of a former Union minister, Kaur’s decision to join the saffron party was made official at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, where she was welcomed by senior leaders. This move comes in the wake of her husband, former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, also joining the BJP last year.
Despite her suspension from the Congress party in February last year, Preneet Kaur continues to hold her position as a Lok Sabha MP from Patiala. Her decision to switch alliances underscores the changing political landscape in Punjab and sets the stage for an intriguing battle in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
As Preneet Kaur embarks on this new political journey with the BJP, the dynamics of the political scenario in Punjab are expected to witness significant shifts. With her experience and influence, Kaur’s entry into the BJP fold could potentially reshape the electoral landscape in the state, adding further complexity to an already intense political milieu.
