Chief Minister N Biren Singh unveiled the State Institute of Hotel Management-SIHM constructed at Nongmaiching under the sponsorship of the Union Tourism Ministry on Thursday. Besides he inaugurated Manipur’s first water amusement park at Thenguchingjin, Awangpotshangba in Imphal East district on Wednesday.
The inauguration ceremony of the SIHM was organised by the Manipur Tourism department with the Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd entrusted as the implementing agency for its construction.
Addressing the attendees, CM Biren highlighted the significance of establishing the SIHM in boosting the tourism sector’s substantial impact on the economy and employment generation.
The CM shed light on the importance of maintaining a harmonious relationship with nature, urging both trainers and trainees to preserve the scenic beauty surrounding the institute. He stressed the need for a sense of belongingness and announced plans to upgrade the institute’s approach road to a double-lane road for better accessibility.
Discussing the State’s Tourism development initiatives, he outlined various projects such as the Sangai Ethnic Park, Manipur Olympian Park, Water Amusement Park, Heritage Park at Makhel, and Southern Cultural Centre at Behiang to promote tourism across Manipur.
Recognising environmental concerns, CM Biren Singh addressed issues of environmental degradation and highlighted ongoing rejuvenation efforts at Lamphelpat. He stressed on the importance of preserving agricultural land, particularly paddy fields, for future food security.
Given the SIHM’s location in a foothill area, he instructed local authorities to ensure the institute’s security by deploying personnel to prevent disturbances from unwanted elements.
A day earlier at the opening ceremony of the recreational park as the chief guest, CM Biren expressed his satisfaction with the new park, highlighting its importance in providing local residents with entertainment options and reducing the outflow of funds to other areas.
The CM outlined plans to further enhance the park’s attractions by incorporating a trekking trail for children and introducing a toy train, aimed at augmenting the visitor experience.
Apart from this, he revealed plans to establish nine additional amusement parks across various districts of Manipur, with each park allocated a budget of Rs 4.5 crore.
Additionally, CM Biren announced proposals for the construction of a Unity Mall and a Convention Centre in the Keikol area to enhance infrastructure and tourism in the region.
