In a shocking development, an FIR has been lodged against former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl. The FIR has been filed under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act and IPC Section 354(A).
The case, initiated by Sadashivanagar police in Bengaluru, stems from a complaint filed by the mother of a 17-year-old girl. According to the filed FIR, the incident occurred on February 2, when the mother and daughter visited Yediyurappa seeking assistance in a cheating case.
The complainant, it has been revealed, has a history of registering complaints, with a tally of 53 cases unrelated to the former Chief Minister. Notably, in 2015, she lodged a sexual assault complaint involving her daughter against a relative of her husband, at Bengaluru’s Electronic City police station.
Reacting to the development, Karnataka’s Home Minister, G Parmeshwar, affirmed that the police are actively investigating the matter, indicating that the truth will be unveiled upon the conclusion of the probe. He refrained from commenting on claims regarding the mental health of the complainant, dismissing notions of a political conspiracy due to her consistent filing of cases.
When queried about Yediyurappa’s potential detention or arrest, the Home Minister declined to provide a direct response, citing the police’s standard operating procedures.
BS Yediyurappa, a prominent figure in Karnataka politics, has served as Chief Minister on multiple occasions, notably between 2008 and 2011, briefly in May 2018, and then from July 2019 to 2021. His resignation in 2021 was marked by emotional scenes, where he lamented the loss of public trust in the government.
Following Yediyurappa’s departure, Basavaraj Somappa Bommai assumed the role of Chief Minister until May 2023. The BJP has already announced Bommai as its candidate from the Haveri constituency for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
