In a plea for justice and protection, eleven victims, including five women, from Sandeshkhali, West Bengal, visited Rashtrapati Bhawan to meet President Droupadi Murmu. Dr. Partha Biswas, Director of the Center for SC/ST Support and Research, accompanied them. The victims handed over a memorandum to President Murmu, seeking her intervention to safeguard the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe community in Sandeshkhali.
Dr. Partha Biswas stated that the victims expressed their grievances to President Murmu with great sympathy. The memorandum highlighted the severe oppression and injustice faced by the marginalized families in Sandeshkhali. The victims, belonging to the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe community, emphasized the dire circumstances surrounding their situation, urging immediate attention and intervention.
According to the memorandum, the victims implored President Murmu to use her esteemed position as the guardian of justice and equality to address the distressing situation effectively. They emphasized that her intervention would not only bring solace and relief to the oppressed people in Sandeshkhali but also serve as a beacon of hope for marginalized communities across India.
The memorandum further expressed gratitude to President Murmu for considering their request and providing them with the opportunity to highlight the plight of their community in West Bengal. They eagerly awaited her response and guidance on this grievous issue.
The women of Sandeshkhali, residing in North 24 Parganas district, have been at the forefront of protests, accusing expelled TMC MLA Sheikh Shahjahan and his aides of grave excesses and atrocities. Allegations include land-grabbing and sexual assault under coercion.
The visit to Rashtrapati Bhawan marks a significant step in the victims’ quest for justice and protection. Their appeal to the highest authority in the nation reflects the gravity of the situation in Sandeshkhali and the urgent need for intervention to address the plight of marginalized communities.
